Tell us a bit about yourself.

Hi, I’m Alisha McCarroll. I’m a qualified dental nurse who has transitioned into the role of an aesthetics nurse practitioner and an award-winning educator. I have over ten years of experience in the field, and I have had the privilege of working in various capacities, honing my skills and expertise in aesthetics.

Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to receive recognition for my work, having won 23 awards to date. These accolades are a testament to my dedication and commitment to excellence in the aesthetics industry.

In addition to my clinical work, I also serve as the Director of the UK Beauty Awards, where I had the opportunity to contribute to the advancement and recognition of outstanding professionals and practices within the beauty and aesthetics sector.

Can you share the journey that led you to become an award-winning Aesthetician and the proud owner of Alisha’s Aesthetics and Training Academy?

I started my business a decade ago with a dream to attend an awards ceremony. To my surprise, not only did I attend, but I also won. I remember saying” It’s a fix to my table, and I won’t win”. But, when my name was announced, I was shocked. It was an incredible feeling to be recognised as a winner, and it felt surreal.

Since then, I’ve won 23 awards, something I’m truly grateful for. I could never have imagined being this successful. I came from a very humble background as a kid from a council estate with practically no dime. However, I had a dream and a vision to be someone and stand out from the crowd, and it’s remarkable to see how far I’ve come.

Alisha, being an accomplished professional in the beauty industry, what motivated you to establish Beauty Awards UK, and how has it impacted the industry?

Well, I attended numerous award ceremonies, but honestly, they were all kind of dull, basic, and old-fashioned. So, I decided to shake things up and bring a modern twist to make it more exciting and unique.

I joined the UK Beauty Awards as the Director in 2022, and we have added cool stuff like sweetie carts, photo booths, dancers, singers, and more to make the experience unforgettable. Check us out on social media, follow us at BeautyAwardsUK, or visit our website at www.ukbeautyawards.com.

We often hear about success stories, but can you shed some light on the challenges you faced while building your career and business? How did you overcome them?

Just like everyone in business, I’ve had my fair share of challenges. It’s not always easy; there are ups and downs.

But, instead of getting discouraged and asking “why me,” I tackle these challenges by learning from them. I take the time to understand and break down the problems, and then I come up with solutions to fix them. That way, I can keep moving forward.

Alisha’s Aesthetics is renowned for its excellence. Can you discuss a specific accomplishment or moment in your career that you are particularly proud of?

I’m really happy that I could start a business doing something I love and am super passionate about. Amazingly, I built it from scratch, with no money or help—just me. Not only that, I ended up winning not just one but 23 awards for doing a great job, and it still makes me emotional.

I had a tough time growing up because my dad passed away when I was 13 because of drug abuse. I got kicked out of school because of my bad behaviour, but I didn’t let that define my future. I wanted a better life for myself, so even though I faced a lot of challenges, I decided to never give up. I believe in the power of being consistent and putting everything I have into my business. Having a robust mindset is also a big help. I’m truly grateful for where I am now.

As an aesthetician and trainer, what do you consider the most rewarding aspect of your work?

I really enjoy helping others succeed and believing in them. When people believe in themselves, anything is possible. Having the right guidance and a supportive team behind you makes a big difference.

In the ever-evolving field of aesthetics, how do you stay updated on the latest trends, technologies, and techniques?

We consistently strive to excel and provide outstanding services by staying at the forefront of aesthetic treatments and training. Ensuring the well-being of our clients and students is our topmost priority, drawing expertise from the latest advancements in aesthetic treatments and education. I’m committed to continuous learning and staying informed about the newest trends and guidelines in the field.

Building a brand like Alisha’s Aesthetics requires a unique vision. Can you share the philosophy or values that guide your business and set it apart in the industry?

I wanted to make a positive impact and assist others in embracing self-love. It’s incredibly fulfilling to be able to uplift people and boost their confidence.

My goal is to support students in their journey to success. I aim to help them develop into the best version of themselves and cultivate a strong passion for their work.

The Beauty Awards UK has gained prominence under your leadership. How do you select winners, and what impact do you believe the awards have on the beauty community?

All candidates who enter The Beauty Awards are expected to complete an application form, which is then sent to our industry professional judges, who are chosen by myself and my business partner Gemma Samuel, and then they pick the runner-up and winner.

The impact of candidates becoming award winners boosts their morale and credibility, helping them get recognised for their talent and success.

What are your future goals and aspirations for Alisha’s Aesthetics, the Training Academy, and the Beauty Awards UK?

Alisha’s Aesthetics is getting ready to open a new clinic in Bicester, and I have big dreams of opening even more clinics and academies in the future.

This year, the Beauty Awards 2024 will be held in Birmingham, and we are thrilled to host the top Hair, Beauty, and Aesthetics awards. We are looking forward to welcoming many leaders in the beauty industry.

We have also launched a podcast where award candidates, judges, and sponsors can share their voices. Plus, we have also introduced a salon membership to support our community with helpful tips, social media assistance, and more.

The beauty industry is known for its competitiveness. What advice do you have for aspiring aestheticians looking to make a mark in the field?

You are your own superpower, and the only person you’re truly competing against is yourself. Remember, your strength and potential come from within. Keep focused on your own progress, and don’t compare yourself to others.
